Laser eye surgery is a type of refractive surgery to correct visual imperfections such as long sightedness, short sightedness and astigmatism. The surgery involves reshaping the cornea which is located at the front of your eye to achieve better focus.
It is one of the most commonly performed eye surgeries in the world, with over 40 million people having been treated so far. It is a very safe procedure and a wonderful option for people who desire low dependency on wearing glasses or contact lenses. It is also a convenient way to avoid the pitfalls associated with contact lens wear, such as dry and itchy eyes, as well more serious complications associated with overuse of contact lenses such as infections and severe sight loss.
LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis and is the most commonly performed type of laser vision correction in the world.
LasikLASEK stands for laser assisted sub-epithelial keratectomy and is a laser- alternative for the highly active or people with thin corneas.
LasekThis blended vision laser correction is for people over 40 with a reading prescription.

Read moreLight rays enter the eye through the surface of the cornea and are focused at a single point on the retina (at the back surface of the eye). The surgery is designed to alter and correct the point where the light reaches in the retina. This involves reshaping the cornea at the front of the eye with a cool excimer laser in order to correct visual defects and imperfections like short-sight, long-sight and astigmatism.
Suitability is determined at the consultation by the surgeon after comprehensive testing. You’ll usually only be able to have it if:
If you have 20/20 vision with glasses or contact lenses, it is highly possible this will be achieved after treatment. However, as with any surgery.
As with any surgery procedure, it is not completely risk-free but complications are very rare and can be dealt with by our comprehensive aftercare system (included in the cost of your treatment).
It will take about 15-20 minutes to treat both eyes but you will be in the clinic for 1 to 2 hours to prepare, perform the treatment, recover and be discharged.
Before the procedure, the surgeon will apply anaesthetic drops to numb your eye so no pain is felt.
Your vision will be a little blurry after LASIK surgery and this wears off a few hours after treatment. Initial recovery after LASIK treatment is usually 24 to 48 hours and for LASEK is 3 to 4 days.
Following LASIK majority of patients are back to work within 48 hours, and within a week for LASEK patients. However, this can vary depending on your occupation.
Typically between 1 to 2 days after treatment LASIK and a week after LASEK but our surgeon will advise you after examine your eyes.
